Residents within the Ogden and Near West areas are on high alert as the Chicago Police Department reports multiple armed robberies. According to the Chicago Police Department, these crimes have taken place within the 10th and 12th Districts, specifically on beats 1032, and 1214. The incidents occurred during the vulnerable early morning and late evening times, with the latest reported at the 2600 block of S. Trumbull Ave. and the 1500 block of W. Chicago Ave.
The perpetrator is initially approachable, utilizing conversation as a tool to lure unsuspecting individuals to different locations. If the victim refuses, they are met with the threat of a handgun and are compelled to move to a location where two male accomplices proceed to rob them, as detailed by the Chicago Police Department. These offenders have also been reported to hit small local retail stores, escalating to armed threats when confronted during their escape.
To keep the community safe, authorities urge citizens to be vigilant and inform those in affected areas. Suspicious activity should be noted, especially if someone is lingering and trying to initiate an unplanned conversation. The importance of staying calm in a confrontation is emphasized.
When witnessing a crime, the CPD stresses the need to contact 911 immediately. Providing precise details of the offenders can be crucial, including clothing descriptions such as a "Women Shouldn’t Vote" shirt, and any vehicle information. Victims or bystanders should also attempt to keep witnesses on the scene, if it's not possible, obtaining their contact details is the next best step. Individuals who find themselves in such alarming scenarios are reminded to not touch anything that could serve as evidence and to contact the police without delay.
