Two incidents of gun violence involving children on the northwest side of Indianapolis have shaken the community this past Sunday evening. In the first of the simultaneous tragedies, a juvenile under 10 years of age was critically injured in a shooting believed to be self-inflicted. Officers dispatched to the scene located the injured juvenile in the 4500 block of Golden Meadow Drive, as reported by FOX59

Meanwhile, a second child has been expected to recover after a separate shooting incident following an armed robbery near Planet Fitness on West 38th Street. The young victim arrived at Eskenazi Hospital with a gunshot wound, according to information provided by IMPD to WTHR

Following the first shooting, authorities are urging preventative measures to avoid similar incidents. IMPD Captain John Arvin, in a statement to FOX59, expressed sympathy for the affected family and highlighted the availability of free gun locks from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office. “I can’t imagine what the parents are going through,” Captain Arvin said, stressing the importance of using these free tools to prevent firearm-related accidents.

Investigations into both incidents are ongoing. Authorities are still looking into the details, and the juvenile from the first incident remains in critical condition at Riley Hospital for Children.
