A violent incident occurred in a Lawrence parking lot near 42nd Street and Post Road on Sunday at 8:45 p.m. that resulted in three deaths has been linked to a dispute in Honduras. The family feud turned deadly in the U.S., far from where it started.
Police who arrived at the grisly scene found Juan Escobar and Candido Eustaqui Antunez Guillen already deceased, with a third victim, Daniel Alberto Morales Uribe, succumbing to his injuries in the hospital after being found critically wounded, FOX59 reported. Their deaths result from a long-standing feud that began in Honduras and reached Indiana.
According to NewsNation, two men, Santos Alfaro-Escobar and Justo Miguel Antunez Escobar, both 29, have been detained in relation to the shootout. Further underscoring the international dimension of this tragedy, both are reportedly being held on Immigration and Customs Enforcement detainers. The connection between the names of the deceased and arrested suggests familial ties entwined in long-running hostilities that led to this outbreak of violence.
Previous encounters with law enforcement by the now-deceased Juan Escobar hinted at the foreboding danger, as he registered multiple reports with the police over fears for his life stemming from alleged threats by Candido Eustaqui Antunez Guillen. The Antunez family killed members of the Escobar family back in Honduras, including Juan Escobar’s father and one of his brothers, as Juan Escobar had told officers, as per CBS4 Indy.
The perpetrators behind the lethal exchange remain in custody.
