A deadly collision between a semi and a sedan claimed the life of one individual in the early hours of Wednesday in Greenwood. As reported by FOX59, Greenwood fire and police departments responded to the accident around 2:15 a.m. at the intersection of Graham Road and Allen Road. Upon arriving at the scene, first responders found a sedan entrapped beneath a semi.
The Greenwood Fire Department confirmed the driver of the sedan was pronounced dead at the scene, while the semi driver was reported to be unharmed. The intersection known for its high volume of overnight traffic due to nearby warehouses, such as the Nestle Waters facility, is a hub for semi-truck activity. WTHR noted the area to be a "warehouse district," which could explain the presence of the semi during those hours.
The identity of the victim has not been disclosed pending notification of next of kin. The exact cause and manner of death are under investigation by the Johnson County Coroner's Office. The Greenwood Police Department continues to investigate the circumstances leading up to the crash, and the area was expected to be closed to traffic for several hours to facilitate the investigation, as per statements obtained by local news outlets.
WRTV relayed that the event caused considerable disruption as officials worked at the scene. Further details concerning the cause of the crash or any contributory factors have yet to be released as the Greenwood Police Department's inquiries are ongoing.
