A Dickson County jail supervisor has been taken into custody, facing allegations of impermissible conduct with inmates under his watch. As reported by FOX 17 News, Calvin Wayne Lewis was indicted on Thursday for allegedly having sexual contact with female inmates at the facility where he was employed.
Forty-one-year-old Lewis, who was a supervisor at Dickson County Jail, is now charged with three counts of sexual contact with an inmate and has been booked on a $25,000 bond in the very jail where the supposed contact took place. Following these events, the Dickson County Sheriff's Office has confirmed that Lewis was terminated after an internal investigation, as specified in a statement obtained by The Tennessean.
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) launched a probe into Lewis's conduct after a request from the 23rd Judicial District Attorney General Ray Crouch. The TBI findings have led to the official charges against Lewis. Detailed by a release on the TBI Newsroom, the investigation confirmed allegations of sexual contact occurring between Lewis and an inmate during his tenure as jail supervisor.
The Dickson County Sheriff's Office has taken a strong position on the matter, ensuring the public that "our office does not condone, nor will we tolerate, any such behavior," according to a news release. They emphasized their commitment to the safety and security of inmates, asserting that "We have protocols in place that ensure allegations such as these are investigated properly and prosecuted when necessary." Looking to make contact, Lewis could not be reached for comment through any available phone numbers.
The charges against Lewis are currently accusations, and he is presumed innocent until proven guilty, as emphasized by the TBI.
