
An investigation is underway in Boynton Beach after an argument over an Uber fare escalated to gunfire, as reported by the Boynton Beach Police Department. According to a CBS12 article, what started as a dispute between the ride-share driver and passenger Mikel Mouaddeb, turned perilous when Mouaddeb allegedly extracted a firearm and discharged several rounds as the Uber driver drove away from the scene.
The altercation and subsequent shooting occurred near the junction of Boynton Beach Boulevard and US1, and though shots were fired, no injuries have been reported thus far, a detail confirmed by the Instagram post from @onlyinpalmbeachtv, which also mentioned the rapid response of the police to the scene, the same post by @onlyinpalmbeachtv elucidated how the driver's decision to leave the spot incited Mouaddeb's actions, leading to his arrest.
The BBPD has not yet released information on if the Uber driver or any bystanders were the intended targets or if any property was damaged during the incident, as they continue their investigation into the shooting that caused alarm within the community.
Mouaddeb is currently detained by local authorities, and while the direct cause of the argument over the fare remains unclear, the prompt intervention of law enforcement ensured the safety of those nearby.
