Tragedy has struck twice in Humboldt Park, with shootings leaving one teen wounded and another dead within days. According to the Chicago Sun-Times, a 16-year-old boy was injured after being shot in the hip Sunday night while standing on the 1100 block of North Keeler Avenue. The assailant, who was reportedly in a silver sedan with three women, is still at large. The teen, whose identity has not been disclosed, was admitted to Stroger Hospital in fair condition.
Further compounding the community's distress, a 17-year-old boy, identified as Jaylen Powell, was shot and later died from his injuries after an incident Wednesday evening. As reported by WGN-TV, Powell suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the head near the 3400 block of West Franklin when a vehicle approached, three males exited, and at least one opened fire. Three males, exiting the unknown vehicle, at least one opened fire on Powell.
Critical when he arrived at Mt. Sinai Hospital, Powell was pronounced dead there. As with the previous attack, authorities report no one is currently in custody for the death of Powell, as per WGN-TV.
