Last Friday afternoon, a man was fatally shot at the Emerald Park Apartment complex on Hacienda Drive in Dublin. The Dublin Police Services were swiftly dispatched to 5050 Hacienda Drive around 2:21 p.m., discovering an adult male with a fatal gunshot wound to his head, as detailed in a Hoodline report.
The identity of the victim remains currently undisclosed as authorities are continuing their investigation into the shooting. Despite having no suspect in custody immediately, the Dublin Police have quickly identified and detained a subject of interest in Barstow, California, as of noon yesterday, suggesting a possible breakthrough in the case. This confirmation was released by Dublin authorities in a statement earlier. Detectives are still working to determine the full extent of this individual's involvement in the crime. Meanwhile, police ensure that there is no immediate threat to the public.
The Emerald Park Apartment complex residents had to temporarily vacate their homes while Dublin Police combed through the area during the initial search for the suspect. The incident also led to a lockdown at the nearby Dougherty Elementary School as a precautionary move, lifted before the school day's end, as ABC7 News reported via Hoodline.
"I was just shocked, because we are normally a quiet community and living close to an elementary school. I never really thought we'd have that incident happen here," Sandra Cardenas, a three-year resident of Emerald Park, told ABC7 News through Hoodline. The history of homicides in Dublin has been relatively low, with only five incidents reported since 2014, including this recent occurrence. The investigation is ongoing, and police will share additional information as it becomes available.
