
Tragedy struck on Pendleton Pike in Lawrence as a fatal crash claimed at least one life Thursday evening. According to a release from the Lawrence Police Department obtained by WTHR, the incident occurred just before 6 p.m. near the intersection of Pendleton Pike and Bittersweet Lane, which serves as an entrance to the Maplewood manufactured home community. Responding officers and medics pronounced the individual deceased on the scene.
The specifics of the crash remain under investigation, and authorities are yet to determine its cause. The Marion County Coroner's Office has joined the investigation alongside accident investigators, reported FOX59. Witnesses are currently being interviewed by the police, who noted the lack of traffic signals at the intersection in question. LPD Lt. David S. Gordon emphasized the department's hopes of gathering more information from those involved or who witnessed the collision.
Deputy Chief Travis Cline told WISH-TV that the emergency call came in just after 5:50 p.m. on Bittersweet Lane, where the incident occurred. The Lawrence Police Department has not yet released details about the person who died or if there were any other passengers involved.
