
Tragedy struck earlier yesterday in Delaware County with a fatal crash that claimed the life of one man and left another seriously injured. At approximately 5:53 a.m., the local sheriff's department was notified of a collision on State Road 67, near the Muncie Dragway, according to FOX59.
Upon their arrival, deputies discovered a heavily damaged Hyundai Elantra in the center of the road, while a Ford Mustang had rolled over on the south side of the roadway the male driver of the Mustang had been ejected and was pronounced dead at the scene. The crash resulted in not only the fatality but also serious injuries to the Elantra's driver, who was subsequently airlifted to IU Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis for treatment, as detailed by The Star Press.
The Delaware County Sheriff's Office is currently investigating the incident to determine the cause and circumstances leading up to the crash. Their efforts included dispatching a crash reconstruction team to the site, which remained on scene well into the morning hours, parsing through the tangled remnants of what was once a morning commute, as reported by WTHR.
Emergency response units, including Delaware County EMS, the county’s coroner's office, and the Albany firefighters, were also said to be on-site, as "Sheriff's deputies found a Hyundai Elantra in the middle of the highway 'with heavy front-end damage," recounted Jeff Stanley, chief deputy of the Delaware County Sheriff's Department, statedment obatined by The Star Press. The names of the individuals involved have not been released, pending notification of next of kin.
