Early Wednesday morning, a fatal incident unfolded on the Bishop Ford Freeway when a motorist slammed into the back of a tow truck, resulting in the driver's death. According to the Chicago Sun-Times, the collision took place around 2 a.m. in the southbound lanes near Dolton Road, as stated by Illinois State Police.
The force of the crash was such that the driver, whose identity has yet to be disclosed, was ejected from the vehicle, and pronounced deceased at the scene. In response, authorities shut down the southbound lanes, creating a significant disruption in the early hours, with traffic being rerouted at 130th Street, officials said, according to a report by the Chicago Sun-Times.
As per ABC7 Chicago, affirming that the tragic incident caused the complete closure of the southbound Bishop Ford freeway between 130th Street and Dolton Road as of 2:10 a.m. This closure remained in effect until the freeway was later reopened around 7:42 a.m., bringing some relief to the morning commuters.
