
On Sunday afternoon, a fatal accident that claimed the life of a pedestrian occurred near the Wendover Road exit on Independence Boulevard in southeast Charlotte. According to WBTV, the collision involved a pedestrian being struck around 5 p.m. near E. Independence Blvd. and Frank Bailey Drive, with emergency services pronouncing the individual dead at the scene.
In response to the incident, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) closed the outbound lanes of Independence Boulevard to conduct an investigation. As reported by WSOCTV, drivers were advised to seek alternative routes while the North Carolina Department of Transportation estimated that the closure would last for several hours.
