Federal agents swooped down on a Doral auto body shop today, acting in concert with a longstanding investigation into the attempted murder of Alex Vega, a Miami-based celebrity car customizer who counts stars like Usain Bolt and Marc Anthony among his clientele. This development was unfolded by sources close to the FBI, as reported by NBC6 and subsequently confirmed by CBS News Miami via their partners at the Miami Herald.
The investigation has been to properly hone in on all those responsible for the attack on Vega, which occurred as he was returning home on the night of August 27, 2019. The assailant, later identified as Julian Jimenez, ambushed Vega, firing eight shots and striking him three times. Two men have since been convicted in relation to the plot. Jaime Serrano, found guilty of a suite of charges including interstate stalking and conspiracy, will be spending 50 years behind bars, while Jimenez entered a guilty plea on similar charges.
Details from the raid at Doral Collision Center, located on Northwest 97th Avenue, remain under wraps, nonetheless, the FBI has confirmed the activity was "court ordered" and pertinent to an ongoing legal matter, as they told NBC6. While the triggerman and his accomplice have been processed through the judicial system, questions remain about who financed the crime.
