Last week, residents and commuters faced disruptions as Fort Lauderdale crews dealt with emergency repairs in bad weather. The City of Fort Lauderdale first reported the damaged water main on August 22 and expected repairs to finish by early August 23, with roads restored soon after. However, overnight rain soaked the road base, making it hard for crews to lay new asphalt. This caused the road closure to be extended, possibly until August 27.
Weekend weather caused delays, and by Friday, it was clear that rain had stopped the asphalting. Crews aimed to lay some asphalt on Saturday to make the roads usable, with final restoration set for Monday or Tuesday, depending on the weather. Temporary lights and noise from machinery were common in the area.
By Tuesday, the city's Neighbor Service Center confirmed that the asphalt restoration was finished and the roads were reopened. During the repairs, traffic was rerouted and restricted to local vehicles only between Vistamar Street and Belmar Street, with advisory signs posted.
