The Franklin Police Department has issued a warning for shoppers in the city after the discovery of credit card skimmers at various Kroger grocery stores. The fraudulent devices were found at the self-checkout lines of three different locations, specifically on Mallory Lane, Murfreesboro Road, and Hillsboro Rd yesterday. In connection with this scam, authorities are on the hunt for two male suspects, who've been captured on surveillance footage.
Shoppers have been urged to stay vigilant when paying at self-checkout lines, as these skimmers can steal their credit card information. The police have provided a surveillance photo of the suspects in hopes that members of the public may recognize them. Information regarding the individuals can be reported to the Franklin Police Department at 615-794-2513, or through Crime Stoppers at 615-794-4000, FOX 17 reported.
The recent discovery in Franklin follows reports of similar skimming devices found at numerous gas stations in Humphreys County just days prior. This trend indicates a growing concern for consumers and raises questions about the security of card transactions in everyday settings. Police explained that while there are physical cues to spot a skimmer, such as a loose or uneven keypad or sticky keys, these signs can often be difficult to detect, WSMV noted.
As the investigation continued, the Franklin Police Department emphasized the importance of reaching out to them with any relevant information. They have taken to social media to spread awareness and assistance, with a tweet stating, "Please be on the lookout! These two men are suspected of installing credit card skimmers at multiple Kroger locations throughout the city today."
