The Glenview community is mourning the loss of a local bicyclist who succumbed to injuries after a tragic collision with a vehicle. Baldomero Martinez, 39, of Niles, was cycling northbound when the accident occurred on the evening of August 15, according to authorities.
Martinez was riding in the median on Milwaukee Avenue, shortly before the clock struck 9 p.m., he turned into the southbound traffic lanes, where a 2017 Toyota Avalon struck him. The Chicago Tribune reported that Martinez was promptly transported to Lutheran General Hospital in critical condition by the Glenview Fire Department.
Glenview police are continuing their investigation, working in conjunction with the North Regional Major Crimes Task Force’s Major Crash Assistance Team. While there have been no charges filed against the driver, the circumstances of the crash remain under scrutiny. The Daily Herald noted that the driver of the Avalon was unharmed in the incident.
