Over a year after a tragic hit-and-run incident claimed the life of a construction worker on DuSable Lake Shore Drive, charges have been brought against a Grand Crossing resident. The accident, which occurred in April 2023, resulted in the death of Kenneth Hernandez, a 45-year-old employee of Bigane Paving Co. He was struck late at night by a black sedan that left the scene, which was reported by The Chicago Tribune.
On Friday, police announced charges against 50-year-old Bahiyyah Bost, who is now dealing with felony charges for failing to report a fatal accident and reckless homicide in a construction zone. Bost, after allegedly hitting Hernandez, got involved in another accident before fleeing, an incident that involved nearly hitting pedestrians at a crosswalk. According to the same report from The Chicago Tribune, she is scheduled for her next court appearance on September 18.
Following the initial accident, Anne Bigane Wilson, the president of Bigane Paving Co., extended her deepest sympathies toward the family and friends of Hernandez. "This tragedy, while working in the closed work zone lanes on DuSable Lake Shore Dr, reminds us how important it is to be aware of construction work zones and the people in them," Wilson said in a statement obtained by ABC7 Chicago. She also expressed gratitude for the efforts of the Chicago Police Department in their ongoing investigation.
