Earlier today, the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) arrived on the scene of a vehicle crash, only to escalate their inquiry into a shooting investigation. The incident occurred at the intersection of 38th Street and Lafayette Road at approximately 6:15 a.m., as noted by IMPD. FOX59 reports that what began as a routine response to a crash turned into something more sinister when officers found that one of the drivers had been shot.
The gunshot victim, whose identity has not been disclosed, was transported to a local hospital and is said to be in stable condition. Conversely, having discovered the gunshot wounds, medics at the scene assessed the other driver involved in the crash, who did not require hospitalization and was released, according to 13News. The circumstances surrounding the crash and its connection, or lack thereof, to the shooting are still murky. IMPD has clarified that the shooting was not associated with the crash, the investigation into the matter continues.
The search for where the shooting occurred prior to the crash is underway by the IMPD. "The person at the scene with gunshot wounds was apparently shot before the crash, according to a preliminary investigating," noted WRTV.
