Hendricks County drivers, mark your calendars and plan your routes – a series of road closures are set to shake up your daily commute. The Hendricks County Government website has issued a notice alerting the public to a variety of roadworks and infrastructure projects that are causing temporary and permanent closures throughout the area.
One significant long-term change took effect on May 23, 2023, with the permanent closure of CR 900 E between 600 N & 750 N for Phase 1A of the Ronald Reagan Parkway development. This change might be old news to local residents who've adapted to the rerouting demands brought upon by progress. Furthermore, scattered across the region from Clayton to Brownsburg, there have been a series of shorter disruptions due to culvert and pipeline installations, as well as geotechnical and drainage work.
For residents looking to navigate the county, the county's website provides a detailed list of closures. The latest onslaught will see interruptions at such as Twin Bridges Rd south of the Danville fire station to 150E & 75S from April 15, 2024, for a span of 10 days. Plainfield also sees its share with CR 975 E shut down between E 800 S & E 750 S from April 9 for culvert work.
The website goes on to outline a slate of road closures with a schedule that stretches well into the fall. Take for instance the road closure on CR E 850 S between S 425 E & S 525 E in Plainfield and Hazelwood, commencing August 5 and expected to last through August 9, 2024. As Brownsburg and Pittsboro residents may already be aware, N 800 E between 1000 N & Maloney Rd will see a pipeline project causing disruption between August 19 and August 23, 2024. Similarly, CR 200 N in Danville will embark on a lengthy 180-day closure starting August 19, 2024, as Bridge 88 receives much-needed attention.
To aid in understanding the scope of some of these projects, INDOT's chip sealing process is available for residents who wish to glean insight into the methodology behind the maintenance work. While not every disruption can be anticipated, being armed with knowledge of the scheduled closures can minimize the daily hassles of navigating the roadways of Hendricks County. As the region continues to grow and infrastructure evolves, this dance between development and day-to-day disruption proves to be an inevitable rhythm of progress within our community spaces.
