Indianapolis is waking to clear skies and temperatures around 67 degrees Sunday morning, but the comfortable start will not last long. The city is forecast to reach 90 Sunday, then climb into the mid-90s for much of the workweek, with the hottest stretch arriving Tuesday and Wednesday.
Heat Builds Through Wednesday
Sunday will be partly sunny with a light south-southwest breeze of 3 to 7 mph. Monday turns mostly sunny and hotter at 94 degrees, with gusts up to 18 mph, followed by a sunny 95 on Tuesday and 96 on Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service in Indianapolis.
Overnight lows will offer limited relief: around 70 Sunday night, 74 Monday night, 76 Tuesday night and 77 Wednesday night. The forecast calls for increasingly warm and humid conditions through Tuesday, while dry air near the ground should keep rain and widespread clouds away for now.
Storm Chances Wait Until Thursday
Rain chances remain very low through Wednesday, generally 5% or less during the daytime. A slight chance of showers arrives Thursday, with a few thunderstorms possible later in the day; Friday keeps a 20% chance, and Saturday rises to 30%.
Saturday should be cooler but still warm, with a mostly sunny high near 88. Showers are possible before 2 p.m., followed by a chance of showers and thunderstorms, so late-week outdoor plans may need a little flexibility.
Plan Around The Afternoon Heat
For people working or exercising outside, the easiest window will be early in the day, before afternoon temperatures peak. Drink water, take breaks in shade or air conditioning, and check on older adults and anyone without reliable cooling; the NWS heat-safety guidance has more resources.
No watches, warnings or advisories are in effect for the Indianapolis area in the current forecast. Even without a formal alert, several consecutive afternoons in the 90s can be taxing, especially as warm nights make it harder for homes and bodies to cool down.
