Hialeah Police are currently investigating a grim scene where a man and a woman were found dead in what has been described as a murder-suicide, according to Local 10 News. The incident occurred at an apartment located at 605 West 68th St. The authorities found two adults deceased and also discovered a 3-year-old child at the scene who, thankfully, was unharmed.
Lt. Eddie Rodriguez explained in a statement obtained by Local 10 News, "We received the phone call of a family member that was concerned about their family," adding, "they've been trying to get a hold of them for several days with no luck." After forcibly entering the apartment, officers made the tragic discovery, the details of which are still under investigation.
Neighbors have expressed shock at the event, noting that the couple was quiet and mostly kept to themselves. One neighbor described the man as someone who seemed happy and did not bother anyone. "Murray didn’t bother anyone and that he said hi when he saw him going up and down the staircase," the neighbor recounted to Local 10 News. Another neighbor reported hearing gunshots as early as Friday night but did not alert the police at the time.
While the names of the deceased have not yet been released, it is confirmed that the child, found dirty and dehydrated, was taken to the hospital as a precaution, as per reports from NBC Miami. The boy is currently under the care of the Florida Department of Children and Families. Lt. Eddie Rodriguez remarked on the investigation, stating, "We're still in the process of interviewing maybe neighbors, someone else. We still need to check cellphone usage and things like that, so we can have a better understanding of when the incident occurred. But obviously the child was inside of the home at the time that this occurred, so for us, right now our priority is going to be the child," in an interview with NBC Miami. The timeframe in which the crimes took place has yet to be determined by the authorities.
This tragic instance casts a somber light on the broader issue of domestic violence and the unseen struggles that may occur behind closed doors. Detectives continue to canvass the scene, piecing together the events that took an irreversible toll on the lives affected. The investigation is ongoing, and more details are expected to be released as they become available.
