In the oft-unseen aftermath of natural disasters, the Humane Society of Broward (HSBC) is extending its reach to shelter dogs displaced by Hurricane Debby. As per a report from Local 10, the Taylor County Animal Control in Perry was hard hit by the storm, leading to flooded kennels and a loss of power—an unfortunate situation that has become somewhat of a regular incident.

Eight canine survivors from Taylor County are being rescued by the Broward Humane Society in Kissimmee. They will be rehabilitated before being adopted by South Florida families. Other shelters are also supporting the rescue effort.

Cherie Watcher also highlighted the role of community support in enabling the shelter's work. "We’re only able to help because of the support we get from the South Florida community," she explained, emphasizing the importance of continual adoptions to facilitate a "constant flow of animals come in and people coming to adopt," as she told Local 10.

Dogs displaced by Hurricane Debby are awaiting new homes, with Spike requiring medical attention. The hope is that Hannah, Star, Hazel, and their companions will be welcomed into new families, possibly as early as this weekend, showcasing their resilience and community resilience.
