A man was tragically killed in a hit-and-run accident on the south side of Indianapolis this past Friday night, according to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department. Officers were dispatched shortly before 11 p.m. to the 2300 block of E. Stop 11 Road, where they discovered an adult male lying in the roadway, who was pronounced dead at the scene by responding medics, as reported by FOX59.

The unidentified victim was attempting to cross the street at the time he was struck. Unable to give a detailed description of the vehicle involved, investigators are now seeking any potential witnesses to come forward to aid in the search for the driver who fled the area. This incident was one of three separate collisions involving pedestrians and bicyclists that occurred on the same day, causing local residents and safety advocates to raise immediate concerns about traffic safety in the area.

Indy Pedestrian Safety Crisis, a local advocacy group, cited this as yet another signal in a distressing pattern of traffic incidents. "It is always really concerning when you hear these incidents happen, but to see multiple in the same location on the same day, it definitely is odd," the group’s founder Eric Holt told 13News. Holt advocates for the "Vision Zero" proposal, which strives to eliminate traffic deaths and severe injuries in Marion County by 2035. "Our streets have become extremely unsafe for driving too, so a lot of these same things that we are working on or that will come out of a Vision Zero Action Plan will make our streets safer for all users," he added.

Local resident Bawili expressed a collective sentiment in her plea for action: "We don't care if we might lose the case or win the case, we just need justice — that's it," she stated in the 13NEWS.
