Tragedy struck on the northwest side of Indianapolis Sunday evening when a juvenile was shot during a robbery at a local gym. As reported by FOX59, the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department responded to an incident near 38th Street and Moller Road around 6:15 p.m. The victim, whose age wasn't disclosed, was transported to Eskenazi Hospital and is said to be in stable condition.
In a turn of events, around the same time authorities were at the gym, there was a report of shots fired in a seemingly related area of Rockville Road and Mickley Avenue. A vehicle, later identified as stolen, was spotted by the Indiana State Police, thus ensued a pursuit. The chase concluded with a crash near Morris Street and High School Road, following which two suspects attempted to flee on foot but were ultimately apprehended by the state police.
Simultaneously, another incident was unfolding. According to WISH-TV, a robbery at Planet Fitness on West 38th Street resulted in a child being shot. The authorities were called to the scene around 6:30 p.m. The child, fortunately, was in stable condition and received prompt medical attention at a local hospital.
The two incidents seemed unrelated until a shots fired report led to a police vehicle chase. The stolen vehicle crashed near Ben Davis University High School, and the suspects were quickly apprehended by troopers after the crash.
The investigation is ongoing as police work to determine the connection between the robbery, the shooting, and the shots fired call that led to the vehicle pursuit. Authorities are expected to provide updates as more information becomes available.
