Indianapolis has seen its share of violent incidents, but the community was rattled this weekend when the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) took a young man into custody after a distressing double shooting on the east side of the city. According to officials, two individuals, an adult woman and a juvenile girl were found wounded following a call for help in the 6100 block of E 21st Street.
FOX59 reported that when officers arrived at the location on Saturday, they discovered the victims with injuries consistent with gunshot wounds, although both victims were conscious and breathing at the time. The circumstances that precipitated the event, however, remains a matter that the authorities have yet to fully articulate. After an investigation into this incident, IMPD identified and arrested Jerimiah Eldrige, a 21-year-old male, preliminarily charging him with two counts of attempted murder.
Details about the suspect's motives and the sequence of events that led to the shooting have been scarce. What has come to light from a report by WRTV, is that Eldrige was booked into the Marion County Jail.
The investigation is ongoing, and as of now, Eldrige awaits his day in court to answer to the charges leveled against him. In a briefing, IMPD officials emphasized their dedication to thorough investigations, but also called for the public's assistance in the case. As reported by CBS4 Indy, the department urged anyone with information about the shooting to come forward to help with the investigation.
