Yesterday evening, a disturbing incident unfolded on the near west side of Indianapolis as a man set his own house ablaze and then barricaded himself inside, according to local authorities. The chaotic scene, which also involved a car on fire and live ammunition discharging, challenged firefighters and police officers as they tried to bring the situation under control.

Fire crews were dispatched to the vicinity of the 1100 block of Mount Street around 5:50 p.m. after the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) reported a domestic disturbance at the location, as detailed by FOX59. On arrival, officers called in the Indianapolis Fire Department (IFD) upon discovering the residence fire and responding crews could hear multiple rounds of ammunition detonating inside a vehicle which was also engulfed in flames.

According to a report by WTHR, firefighters swiftly arrived at the scene and faced a working fire. They made entry into the house after a dresser used to barricade the front door was removed. Despite the immediate danger, the man, identified as a 58-year-old, resisted rescue efforts from the firefighters. IMPD officers eventually subdued and handcuffed the uncooperative individual, removing him from the fiery setting.

In the aftermath, one firefighter was reported to have suffered a minor injury and was transported to Methodist Hospital for evaluation. IMPD is looking into the domestic dispute believed to have spurred the incident. Meanwhile, the IFD is investigating the intentional setting of the fire, likewise termed arson.
