Details are emerging about a severe collision in central Broward that claimed two lives and left another individual fighting for life in the wake of a presumably speeding Tesla's involvement. The Broward Sheriff’s Office (BSO) has confirmed that the incident, which occurred near the Washington Park and Boulevard Gardens neighborhoods, is under investigation, particularly as to whether deputies were in pursuit of the vehicle prior to the impact, as reported by Local 10 News yesterday.
According to eyewitness accounts and details provided by Local 10 News, a 19-year-old Gavin Dorvil was behind the wheel of the Tesla that struck a Dodge Durango at the intersection of Northwest 27th Avenue and Sixth Street around 4 p.m. on Sunday, leading to the deaths of two women within and critically injuring another passenger; subsequently, the Durango collided with another vehicle causing it to overturn. A witness, Damadrick Hugley described the crash as "boom, boom, boom" after feeling a breeze from the speeding car passing by.
Additional witnesses provided to Local 10 News, recounting the immediate aftermath and their efforts to aid the victims, Trumane Simpson, one of the first responders on the scene, relayed, “We helped. We were the ones that got them out of the car,” and further disclosed that he had seen "a high-speed chase. No lights, no sirens." at the scene, the presence of which further adds to the already unclear circumstances of the tragedy; the BSO, in response to inquiries about the officers' actions, has noted that "The investigation into the circumstances of the crash is ongoing, as is an administrative review of the incident by (internal affairs) to determine if any deputies were pursuing the Tesla."
