On a solemn Saturday, the Flores family received a poignant tribute in honor of their son, Jose Flores Jr., who was tragically taken from them during the Robb Elementary School shooting on May 24, 2022. At a mere 9 years old, Jose harbored the dream of someday joining the ranks of law enforcement. In a gesture to fulfill this dream posthumously, Jamaica Beach Police Chief Ray Garivey presented the family with a framed jacket, symbolically welcoming Jose into the fold as an honorary police officer.
According to KSAT, the ceremony was held on Saturday afternoon. Chief Garivey expressed the deep significance of the gift and he told KSAT that it was important to him and his department.
Chief Garivey stated, "My calling is just to try to be part of the grieving, to the healing process, to do what I can for that family, to let them know that law enforcement in Jamaica Beach and in Galveston County welcome his son into our blue family," as reported by SA Urban.
