The Town of Jupiter has completed the installation of two new crosswalks near Lighthouse Elementary and Jupiter Elementary schools as part of its efforts to heighten safety for students. According to a release obtained by CBS12, one crosswalk is located at Dakota Drive near Lighthouse Elementary School, while, the second stands at Loxahatchee Drive at Jupiter Elementary School.

The initiative addresses the growing concerns for pedestrian safety and is just the commencement of a larger town-wide project that plans to see ten new crosswalks. "The new crosswalks feature elevated sidewalks for better visibility and button-activated lights to alert drivers when pedestrians are crossing," the town said in a statement. Coordinating closely with the principals of both schools ensured that these crosswalks were placed in the most strategic locations for student use.

In more detail, as WPBF delineates, these crosswalks are equipped with raised sidewalks to improve the line of sight for drivers and lights that flash to signal the presence of pedestrians, enhancing safety measures for children on their walks to and from school. This active engagement is a demonstration of the town's dedication to its younger residents and their well-being.

Furthermore, this project is but a segment of a larger plan to bolster safety within the community, with additional crosswalks set to be erected shortly, the town worked with school authorities to identify crucial areas that would most benefit from these pedestrian safety enhancements.
