When Ricky Boada returned to his Little Havana apartment and stumbled upon an attempted motorcycle theft, he took immediate action that led to the crooks abandoning the heist, as captured in a video that's since gone viral. "As soon as I get here, half the bike is in the van," Boada told WSVN. In the cellphone footage, Boada confronts two masked individuals attempting to whisk away his friend's motorcycle from the InTown Apartments parking garage. His quick wit and courageous stance resulted in the thieves trying to negotiate their way out of the situation without police involvement.
Despite the risk, Boada, unwavering in the face of potential danger, held his ground and even managed to block the only exit with his vehicle, he recounted this maneuver in saying, "Nah bro, that's my bike! Bring it down," effectively trapping the white Chrysler Pacifica minivan that the thieves were using inside the structure. When they realized they had no exit, panic took over, and the thieves began pleading and even offering a limp apology in an attempt to dissuade him from making the 911 call.
But the sense of justice was not forsaken, for Boada insisted on the thieves unloading the motorcycle, and they complied, "The main thing was for him to put the bike back down and not steal it," Boada recounted to Local 10. After the ordeal, the thieves hurriedly departed, and Boada made sure to capture their license plate number, albeit with the suspicion that it could be counterfeit.
A reporter from WSVN asked Boada "Were you worried at all that they were armed," to which he replied he had not considered the possibility, driven by the imperative that the act itself was simply wrong and needed to be stopped. At present, no arrests have been made in connection to the incident.
