
The Metropolitan Police Department is currently investigating a tragic incident that occurred in Northwest D.C. where a motorcycle crash claimed the life of a local man. According to a press release from the MPD, the accident happened early Sunday morning on August 25, 2024.
Reportedly at 3:27 a.m., the motorcyclist, later identified as 30-year-old William Edwards Jr. of Southeast, was riding a Suzuki GSX motorcycle along the 1000 block of U Street Northwest. Authorities mentioned that he was traveling at a high rate of speed and without a helmet when he attempted to cross the intersection on a red signal and was struck by a black Toyota RAV4. The vehicle, proceeding north on 11th Street with a green light at the time of the collision, remained at the scene following the crash.
The aftermath of the crash led to Mr. Edwards being transported to a local hospital, where he was ultimately declared deceased. This incident adds to the concerning trend of motor vehicular fatalities in the district, igniting conversations about road safety and the enforcement of traffic laws amidst the community.
The driver of the Toyota has been cooperating with police, as per the same MPD statement. Authorities are urging anyone with information about the crash to come forward.
