Tension gripped the Bridgetown Middle School in Green Township when Raymond Huff Jr., 40, was arrested after allegedly bringing a gun onto the grounds during a youth football practice session. According to court documents obtained by WCPO News, Huff is facing a misdemeanor charge of inducing panic and a fifth-degree felony for illegal conveyance of a deadly weapon.
The incident, which unfolded on Tuesday, caused the young players of the Oak Hills Little Highlanders to desert the field in fear abruptly. An eyewitness, in a police statement that was included in the arrest documents, reported seeing Huff "pull a gun out of his car and walk across the field." as per WCPO In response to the situation, the Little Highlanders referred to the confrontation as a "family dispute" involving two parents, as revealed on their Facebook page, as well as in an arrest affidavit mentioned by FOX19.
Huff, now in custody, has reportedly admitted to possessing the weapon on school property. This admission was documented in the legal complaint against him. The school's football fields were evacuated as a precaution when witnesses observed him with the weapon visibly on his waistband approaching someone on the fields. This was further confirmed in an affidavit disclosed by Green Township police.
Residents and parents expressed concern, with one woman telling WCPO, "In front of children who don't need to see that kind of violence." The presence of guns at the youth practice highlights an ongoing concern over the safety of children in public spaces and the trauma that such incidents can quickly invoke in the community at large. As the investigation continues, details regarding the nature of the alleged "family dispute" and the motivations for Huff bringing the weapon to the field remain under scrutiny.
