
A deadly altercation unfolded in Chicago's Hyde Park area Thursday afternoon, as a man was fatally shot during what was reported to be a heated argument. Joseph Cook, age 29, sustained a fatal gunshot wound to the neck at around 4:20 p.m. in a busy shopping district in the area of 1300 block of East 53rd Street, as detailed by the Chicago Tribune.
Authorities indicate that the altercation began in Nichols Park, which quickly escalated as one male involved produced a firearm and proceeded to directly shoot Cook. According to the Chicago Sun-Times, Cook was shortly after transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
Despite the daylight setting and the area being well-frequented, no arrests have been reported as of yet, as per the Chicago Sun-Times.
