The streets of Memphis turned into a crime scene after two men, Markaveon Walker, 19, and Murdock Britt, 27, engaged in a spree of theft and reckless behavior. Their actions allegedly included stealing a healthcare worker’s vehicle and escalating to a violent confrontation outside an East Memphis restaurant.
According to Action News 5, the duo is accused of pilfering a blue 2017 Infiniti Q60 from the parking lot of Christ Community Health Services' Frayser location. Their alleged escapade didn't quell there. Two days post-theft, as reported by WREG, they were embroiled in a harrowing incident where shots were fired at customers attempting to intervene in a separate car theft incident at the Happy Mexican restaurant.
During the chaos, witnessed by patrons dining alfresco, a white Nissan—one of the suspects' vehicles—crashed while making a hasty retreat and was abandoned, as mentioned by WREG. The stolen Infiniti, meanwhile, successfully eluded the scene before the arrival of authorities.
It wasn't until a patrol unit glimpsed the blue car in question, which by then was brandishing a license plate from another stolen vehicle, that the fugitives' run began to fray. Declining to yield to law enforcement, the pair prompted a pursuit that would culminate in engine failure on I-240 West near Airways Boulevard. After a brief foot chase, Walker and Britt were apprehended, as detailed by FOX13 Memphis.
Walker is currently held on a bond set at $200,000, with charges including vehicle theft and two counts of evading arrest. Britt, who faces similar charges, presumably found the price of freedom quantified by a $10,000 bond. Both suspects are mandated to appear before the court shortly. The Memphis Police Department remains vigilant, as the search for a third suspect implicated in these events continues.
