The Memphis Police Department continues its search for suspects involved in a May carjacking and shooting that took place outside Lit Jr. on Winchester Road, as reported by Action News 5. The victim was approached by three armed individuals while sitting in his 2008 Mercedes-Benz 350C early on the morning of May 29. He was then shot in the abdomen after complying with the suspects' demands to exit his vehicle, which was subsequently stolen and later discovered wrecked in South Memphis on July 5.
This crime has not resulted in any arrests to date. The Memphis Police Department has provided descriptions of the suspects involved, one of which was captured on surveillance footage and shared by the Memphis Police Department's Facebook page. Suspect No. 1, described as an approximately 18-20-year-old male, 5'7" to 5'10" tall, was last seen wearing a black hoodie, blue surgical mask, and carrying two handguns. Suspect No. 2, a male of similar age and between 5'9" and 6'0" tall, and Suspect No. 3, matching the same general description, were both seen wearing black hoodies and black jeans. The fourth suspect, a female in her late teens to early twenties and about 5'3" to 5'5" tall was last seen donning a white shirt, black jeans and carrying a blue purse.
Following the July incident where the stolen Mercedes crashed at the intersection of Florida Street and Mallory Avenue, witnesses observed two individuals, a man, and a woman, exit the vehicle and wipe down the car doors with hand sanitizer before fleeing on foot. Public assistance has been solicited by the Memphis Police Department to help identify the suspects responsible for this crime. Citizens with any pertinent information are encouraged to call Sgt. Warren with the Violent Crimes Unit or to submit anonymous tips to Crime Stoppers. Information leading to an arrest could render the tipster eligible for a cash reward of up to $1,000.
