
The Metropolitan Police Department is turning to the public for help in identifying a suspect linked to a case of credit card fraud that occurred in Northwest D.C. early this month. According to a police report, the incident took place on the 2000 block of 14th Street, Northwest on August 4, 2024, when, around 4:01 a.m., a victim was attacked while asleep by persons unknown at present who then went on to commit credit card fraud using the victim's stolen card several hours after the initial altercation.
During the incident, the victim was assaulted after waking up to find multiple suspects rummaging through his pockets. The suspects then fled with his belongings, including the credit card that was later used fraudulently. The MPD has released this information to encourage anyone with knowledge of the crime to come forward. Additionally, the police department is offering a reward of up to $1,000 for tips leading to an arrest and indictment, hoping to prompt community involvement and collaboration with law enforcement to resolve the case.
Investigative efforts to track down the perpetrators are ongoing, with the police department urging those who might recognize the suspect or have any information pertinent to the case to contact them directly. People with knowledge regarding the incident should "take no action but call police at (202) 727-9099" or provide information anonymously through the department's TEXT TIP LINE by texting to 50411, as per the notice issued by the MPD.
