The forecast for Miami this weekend calls for a blend of sunshine and clouds, leading into afternoons marked by overcast skies, according to the National Weather Service. With temperatures hitting around 90°F, the conditions are expected to be thermally moderate, swaying minimally from seasonal averages. The Florida Keys will be an outlier, bracing for notably higher heat indices that have triggered a Heat Advisory for the area today.
Weather in Miami-Dade and the Florida Keys is likely to be affected by a weak front stalling over the region, which will increase cloud cover and the likelihood of showers and thunderstorms; forecasts indicate a 50 percent chance of rain, not enough to call for a washout but potentially heavy in bursts with chances of isolated flooding. As WSVN noted, the front is trapping tropical moisture, which could darken skies with more clouds than sun and bring showers and storms, especially adopting a fickle nature, sporadically appearing and causing moments of torrential downpours.
Transitioning into the new week, South Florida can look forward to greater instances of sunshine that will likely push temperatures to a warmer bracket in the mid-90s. Despite a reprieve earlier in the week with sporadic showers, the National Weather Service predicts that by Wednesday and Thursday, the likelihood of afternoon thunderstorms will once again rise to a more significant probability.
Adding to the weather activity, Hurricane Ernesto, which made landfall on Bermuda early Saturday as a Category 1 hurricane with 85 mph winds, will continue to influence the Atlantic, as mentioned by WSVN, the hurricane is on a north-east trajectory and is expected to weaken gradually, ultimately shedding its tropical characteristics as it progresses into the colder waters afar from tropical nurseries where such tempests draw their life-force.
