A Miami-Dade man, identified as Diego Jose Rosales Morillo, faces criminal charges after being accused of recording women inside a Goodwill store's changing rooms. Morillo, 25, allegedly used his phone to film unsuspecting customers at the Goodwill Superstore on 9760 SW Eighth St., according to Local 10 News. The initial incident reportedly occurred on August 22, 2023, when a woman spotted Morillo's phone while changing.
Following her confrontation with Morillo, who is said to have apologized and claimed to have deleted the video, he swiftly left the scene before the woman could alert the Goodwill staff or law enforcement. On two separate occasions, the store manager reportedly observed and documented Morillo's attempts to secretly record other women. Store surveillance footage supposedly captured these incidents, enabling the police to identify the suspect. NBC Miami reported that Morillo, upon confrontation by authorities, admitted to being at the store but consistently denied recording anyone, asserting that he was merely taking "selfie photos."
The arrest of the Venezuelan national has resulted in three counts of video voyeurism charges. Morillo subsequently bonded out of jail yesterday, as stated in court records cited by Local 10 News. This series of incidents has stirred unrest among Goodwill customers. One shopper, Leslie Fonseca, shared her dismay with CBS News Miami, saying, "I think I am very concerned that this is something that you to worry about while you are dressing in privacy, in the privacy of a dressing room and it's just disappointing."
Goodwill Industries of South Florida has made a statement confirming their zero-tolerance stance against any "outrageous and illegal behavior." The spokesperson emphasized their commitment to maintaining a safe environment for both staff and customers and applauded their manager's quick thinking to assist police in identifying the suspect. As reported by both CBS News Miami and Local 10 News, Goodwill has continually stated their dedication to providing a secure and welcoming shopping experience and will keep cooperating with the investigating authorities in the ongoing case.
