The Miami police have intensified their search for an unidentified man caught on video while engaging in egregious behavior in the vicinity of Little Havana. Surveillance footage from August 21 at about 6:45 a.m. shows a suspect peering through a child's window and committing a lewd act, as reported by CBS News Miami.
Jose Larreynaga, disturbed and furious, found out about the incident when a friend, fearing theft, encouraged him to check his home's security system. In the video, the father saw, not a thief but, a stranger leering at his daughter as she was getting dressed for school. "I couldn't work that day thinking about it," Larreynaga remarked in a statement obtained by CBS News Miami.
The chilling incident took place on Southwest 10th Street and Seventh Avenue, has left the Larreynaga family in distress, and has exposed the community to the unsettling reality of a voyeur in their midst. According to Local 10 News, Larreynaga’s six-year-old daughter now refuses to sleep alone due to the trauma, and the family has lost its sense of security. The man in the video is described as having a tattoo on his forearm, and he was last seen driving a black Honda Civic wearing an Adidas shirt with a logo on the back.
“It’s dangerous to have someone like that on the loose, going around doing things that are wrong,” said Ingris Hernandez, the child's mother, in a statement obtained by Local 10 News. Kiara Delva, a public information officer with the Miami Police Department stated, “We cannot afford to have someone like this on the streets of the city of Miami. This case is, of course, very alarming and our detectives do not take these types of cases lightly.”
Community members and the authorities are appealing to the public for any information that may assist in identifying the perpetrator. Jose Larreynaga urged the community to report any knowledge of the man to the police: "Please call the police so they can arrest him. Because no one knows if he’s done this before," he said to Local 10 News. The Miami Police Department has asked anyone with information on the man’s identity to contact them at 305-603-6640.
