Golf enthusiasts will need to adjust their swings and schedules as Miami-Dade County Parks, Recreation and Open Spaces Department has announced a temporary halt to play at Crandon Golf Course. The pause came into effect today, and the famed 18-hole course will remain closed for approximately four weeks due to ongoing renovations. Details shared in a press release from Miami-Dade County highlighted upgrades focused on enhancing environmental resiliency and preserving natural areas.
The renovation is part of a $5 million effort that kickstarted on May 6, aiming to revamp the course’s playing surfaces and infrastructure, including the irrigation system, bunkers, and the tee boxes. While the full course is set to make a comeback in November 2024, players can anticipate the return of the front 9 holes by mid-September, "This short course closure will allow us to complete the overall project sooner for a November full 18-hole re-opening," according to a statement on the course's FAQ page of Gold Miami-Dade.
During the closure, services such as the clubhouse/pro shop, restaurant, driving range, and practice facilities will remain open to the public, ensuring that the golf community still has access to essential amenities. The Crandon Golf at Key Biscayne has been a staple in the golf world for years, known for hosting the Senior PGA Tour for 18 years and boasting one of the Golf's most esteemed holes, the seventh.
Highly rated by Golfweek, and Golf Digest as one of America’s top upscale courses, touting fairways and greens bearing witness to golf legends, the course's revitalization is much-anticipated.
