A motorcycle mishap in Big Cottonwood Canyon has resulted in a young man's critical injury after a fall into the river. As reported by ABC4, the incident involved a 25-year-old male motorcyclist who plummeted roughly 70 feet off E. Big Cottonwood Canyon Road. The area, just beyond the limits of Cottonwood Heights, became the focus of an intense rescue operation after the accident.
The curve that was to be navigated by the motorcyclist, according to Fox13Now, has been identified as the critical juncture at which the rider failed to maintain control. This failure led to his disastrous plunge off the adjacent cliff. Rescue teams were compelled to quite literally go above and beyond in their efforts to reach and subsequently evacuate the man, with personnel from Unified Fire Authority rappelling down to where he lay injured.
Following the rescue, Big Cottonwood Canyon required a temporary closure to facilitate the retrieval of the unfortunate rider, as emergency services worked the scene. These developments necessitated a pause in the canyon's usual traffic flow, underscoring the gravitas of the incident and its implications for local transit.
In the latest update, from the Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office regarding the details of the accident, the victim's condition remains grave as per KSL Newsradio. Their account corroborated that the motorcyclist, while endeavoring to execute a turn at 6400 East Big Cottonwood Canyon Road, did not manage to do so correctly, leading to his current predicament.
