An IndyGo bus collided with a Kia in downtown Indianapolis, resulting in multiple injuries and at least seven hospitalizations, officials from the Indianapolis Fire Department reported. The crash occurred around 11:51 a.m. Monday at the intersection of W. 9th Street and N Capitol Avenue. FOX59 stated that both vehicles were traveling southbound when the Kia’s driver made a left turn, crossing the bus lane unexpectedly and leading to the collision.

According to the Indianapolis Fire Department, as sourced by WIBC, the driver of the Kia was seriously injured and trapped following the crash. They were extricated from the car and transported to a nearby hospital. With nine individuals onboard the bus, six passengers were dispatched to local hospitals but are reportedly in good condition.

As the Indianapolis Metro Police Department takes the lead in investigating the incident, concerns about the clarity of signage in the area have surfaced. Doug Wright, in a statement obtained by WTHR, expressed that "Sometimes, the signage can be a little bit confusing, particularly if there is signage saying to look both ways before you make a turn because you're not thinking to look both ways on a one-way street, crossing over a one-way street, and then, unfortunately, accidents like this can happen."

Further commenting on the safety of the intersection, Angie Raynor, who works at a restaurant near the site of the crash, told WTHR, "I see a lot of people on their phones all day long and people not paying attention to the lanes, and like I said, the bus drivers kind of fly down here a little bit. I don't know how much they pay attention."
