The Murfreesboro Police Department is actively investigating a tragic incident that claimed the life of a pedestrian early Sunday morning. According to reports by WSMV, the unidentified woman's body was discovered near the 800 block of North Thompson Lane, lying adjacent to the curb at around 6 a.m. Detectives are working with the hypothesis that the woman was struck by a vehicle during the night before being found.

The location of the incident was shut down for approximately two hours as the MPD Fatal Accident Crash Team undertook its investigation, causing traffic delays between Medical Center Parkway, and Gateway Boulevard. Fox17 reports that law enforcement officers are rigorously following several leads in the hope of piecing together the events that led to the woman's untimely death.

In a continuous effort to uncover the truth behind this fatal hit-and-run, Murfreesboro police are asking for the community's assistance. "If you were in the area and saw what occurred or if you were driving in the area and hit something and not sure what, please contact police at 615-893-1311," Rutherford Source quoted MPD.
