Miami-Dade County is setting the stage for a vital new development designed to assist older adults in finding affordable housing. Mayor Daniella Levine Cava and District 9 Commissioner Kionne L. McGhee will spearhead the groundbreaking ceremony for the next phase of Quail Roost Station on August 14, as reported by Miami-Dade County's official announcement. This development aims to enhance the community by incorporating housing that is well-integrated with public transportation options.
The enhanced Quail Roost Station will feature 124 units specifically for older adults including 36 studios, 72 one-bedroom, and 16 two-bedroom units. This initiative comes as a collaborative attempt to revitalize the community through a six-phase project, with the current phase expected to be complete by the end of 2024 and the third phase commencing in 2025. Affordability is key in the new phase, as the units are allocated across various income levels, 20 units are aimed at those earning at or below 30% of the Area Median Income (AMI), 44 units for individuals at or below 60% of the AMI, and 60 units for those at or below 70% of the AMI.
Residents of Quail Roost Station can look forward to a variety of amenities, as the development plans include a community room, a business center, a fitness center, and onsite laundry facilities. In addition to the physical amenities, the project will also offer valuable services such as adult literacy classes, employment assistance, and financial management program classes. The contemporary design and well-thought-out facilities are geared towards creating an environment that supports the wellbeing and personal growth of its older residents.
A significant financial contribution of a $4.96 million grant from Surtax funding was awarded to the project by Miami-Dade County, highlighting the initiative's importance in the community's development, and the county's commitment to supporting its older adult population. Noteworthy figures including Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava, District 9 Commissioner Kionne L. McGhee, PHCD Director Alex R. Ballina, DTPW Director Eulois Cleckley, and Kenneth Naylor, President of Development at Atlantic Pacific Companies, will mark their presence at the event to be held at 18555 Homestead Avenue, Miami, FL 33157.
