An explosion at a Duchesne County oil field in Utah has left an oil hauler with severe burns, sparking fresh discussions on industry safety. The incident occurred on Wednesday evening at Uinta Wax Operating in Myton, Utah. According to KUTV, the worker sought immediate help from a crew nearby after the explosion happened.
Transported to a local hospital, and then flown to Salt Lake City, the injured worker’s current condition remains critical, as reported by ABC4. The company's president, Jason Pearce, expressed regret over the events, stating, as per KUTV, "We are truly sorry this incident occurred and that someone who is part of our oilfield team was critically injured. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the person injured and their family." Despite the swift action taken by the team on-site to assist the injured and secure the area, the cause of the flash fire is still under investigation.
Fire crews, dispatched to the scene, saw a Workover rig and oil tank battery with active fire upon arrival, as detailed by Duchesne County Fire Marshal Joshua Phillips as per KSLTV. The fires were reportedly extinguished without any injuries to the responding fire crews. The fire is currently being investigated to determine its cause.
