Tramon Jamal Stewart, a 23-year-old from Orlando, Florida, has been sentenced to over seven years in federal prison after entering a guilty plea for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. U.S. District Judge Paul G. Byron handed down a sentence of seven years and three months, as well as ordered the forfeiture of a Glock 34 9mm pistol involved in the offense, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.

On September 27, 2023, when the Orange County Sheriff’s Office Gang Enforcement Unit located Stewart to serve a felony arrest warrant, he attempted to evade arrest. After a short chase that ended with Stewart jumping over a fence and falling, law enforcement apprehended him and found him in possession of a loaded handgun with one round in the chamber, and 22 rounds in the magazine.

The weapon recovered had been reported stolen from Suwannee County, Florida, and ballistic evidence linked it to a shooting in Orlando earlier that year. The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives along with the Orange County Sheriff's Office, with assistance from Assistant United States Attorney Adam J. Nate in the prosecution.

Stewart's sentencing is part of the national initiative Project Safe Neighborhoods aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence. This strategy, revitalized by the U.S. Attorney's Office on May 26, 2021, includes fostering trust within communities, supporting violence prevention organizations, prioritizing strategic enforcement, and measuring the results effectively to ensure the safety of neighborhoods.
