A pedestrian fatality occurred Monday night when an individual was struck by a CSX freight train in Madison, the Metro Nashville Police Department confirmed. The tragic incident took place across the street from the 80 block of East Campbell Road just after 9:30 p.m., where law enforcement and the train conductor found the victim unresponsive near the tree line, according to WSMV.
In a report by FOX 17 News, the conductor said the person was "sitting on the railroad tracks while the train was moving and did not move" before being struck, indicating no apparent effort by the pedestrian to avoid the oncoming train, as the train approached the investigation by MNPD is ongoing, and at this time there is no evidence of foul play.
Continuing details reveal that video footage from the on-board train camera confirmed the conductor's account, showcasing the man sitting on the tracks before the collision, despite the train's operation attempts to alert him which was reported by WKRN. The man, whose identity remains undisclosed pending notification of kin, was pronounced dead at the scene.
