Yesterday, a dramatic rescue unfolded on Upper Great Highway near Vicente Street, where the San Francisco Fire Department responded to a dire situation – a person trapped inside a sewer pipe. According to an early morning post from the SFFD's Facebook page, Heavy Rescue Squads 1 & 2 and Haz Mat and Battalion 2 units were rapidly deployed to the scene to tackle the complex emergency.
With the ocean's proximity adding to the urgency, crews worked to gain access from the street, a task that demanded both precision and haste yet required careful navigation to prevent further endangerment. The SFFD updated that a technical confined space rescue was performed in a determined effort to reach the individual.
The victim, whose identity has not been released, was eventually freed from the treacherous confines of the sewer pipe. SFFD's highly trained personnel successfully extracted and transported the individual to a local hospital. After the harrowing ordeal, paramedics provided immediate medical attention upon extrication, ensuring the person received the essential care.
