
A Pittsburg community is grappling with the aftermath of a fatal altercation that occurred early Tuesday on Railroad Ave. According to a report by the Hoodline, a 65-year-old man suffered significant facial trauma during a fight and, despite efforts by emergency responders, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The incident has since led to a murder charge against 28-year-old Billy Ray Darby, Jr., who was located and arrested following witness accounts and video footage corroborations. Details shared by the Contra Costa District Attorney’s Office indicate that Darby is being held without bail at the Martinez Detention Facility and is facing a two-count felony complaint that includes one count of murder and one count of assault likely to produce great bodily injury.
Further investigation into the circumstances of the fatal encounter is ongoing, and authorities are urging anyone with additional information to come forward. The victim, Chito Avelino Ituriaga, was found with serious head and neck injuries following the reports of a fight that occurred on Tuesday.
Billy Ray Darby, Jr.’s arraignment is scheduled for today at 1:30 p.m. in the Superior Court of California, County of Contra Costa, in Martinez.
