Two Portland Police officers narrowly avoided injury when their patrol car was T-boned and subsequently flipped over after being struck by a civilian vehicle. The incident unfolded yesterday evening as the officers, part of the East Precinct, were heading to an active emergency. As reported by the Portland Police Bureau, the patrol car was moving east on Northeast Glisan Street, near the I-205 off-ramp intersection. With lights flashing and sirens blaring, they maneuvered to clear the intersection assuredly while surrounding traffic gave way.

However, not all drivers on the road adhered to the rules, as a driver, ignoring the yielding cars on the northbound I-205 off-ramp, darted into the intersection. The collision that ensued caused the marked police SUV to roll. Neither police officer reported injuries at the scene but was taken to the hospital for precautionary checks.

According to the same briefing by the Portland Police, the driver of the vehicle that initiated contact with the police cruiser and a passenger waved off medical attention.

Portland Police Traffic Division arrived to process the scene, shutting down the intersection in the aftermath to unravel the incident's cause.
